Another inspiring British Sign Language (BSL) session took place this week, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to building an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and supported. Led by our Inclusion Administrator, Cherry Ryder, the BSL training session brought colleagues together to learn practical sign language skills that can be used in both professional and everyday settings. These sessions have quickly become a cornerstone of our inclusion journey, helping to strengthen understanding, break down communication barriers, and create a culture of belonging.
Recapping and Building New Skills
The session began with a recap of signs introduced in earlier training, allowing participants to refresh their knowledge and feel more confident in using BSL. From there, Cherry guided us into new vocabulary that has direct, practical use.
✨ This week’s focus included:
- The months of the year
- Seasonal words like Christmas and Halloween
- Useful workplace phrases, such as:
- “What time are you leaving today?”
- “Have you checked your email?”
- “Did they come back to you?”
Through demonstration and practice, participants saw how even small steps in language learning can strengthen connections and make communication more inclusive for colleagues and communities who use BSL.
Why BSL Matters in the Workplace
Learning BSL isn’t just about vocabulary, it’s about accessibility and inclusion. By taking time out of their busy schedules to join, participants are helping to build a workplace where communication barriers are reduced and everyone feels seen, respected, and supported.
🌟 Benefits of learning BSL at work include:
- Better communication with colleagues and customers who use sign language
- Stronger awareness of accessibility and inclusion
- A more empathetic and connected workplace culture
- Tangible action toward equality and diversity goals
A big thank you goes to all who attended, whether in person or online. Your enthusiasm and willingness to learn are what make these sessions so impactful.
Our Commitment to Workplace Inclusion
At PN Inclusion, inclusion isn’t just a policy, it’s a practice. From workshops to training sessions, we embed inclusive values into everyday workplace life. BSL training is just one of the ways we’re taking action to ensure everyone, regardless of communication needs, feels supported.
By learning British Sign Language together, we are:
- Developing practical communication skills
- Fostering a more inclusive workplace culture
- Taking tangible steps toward accessibility and equality
- Strengthening our sense of community and belonging
Looking Ahead
We are excited to continue our BSL training journey, adding new signs and phrases with each session. Step by step, sign by sign, we are creating a more connected and inclusive workplace.
✨ Inclusion is not a one-time effort, but an ongoing journey — and every sign we learn brings us closer to a workplace where everyone can thrive.
