Professional Deaf Relay Services

PN Inclusion offers Deaf Relay Services to support individuals who are D/deaf, hard of hearing, or sign-language users with limited BSL proficiency. This ensures clear, accessible communication in any setting.

Deaf Relay (Intralingual Interpreting) This is when two interpreters work together.

  • A Relay/Intralingual interpreter, often Deaf, signs to the D/deaf client in their preferred sign language or simplified BSL.

  • A Hearing BSL interpreter then translates this into spoken or written English for hearing participants.

This layered approach supports clients with minimal BSL skills, additional learning needs, or those who use a different sign language.

Why It Matters

Only around 0.25 % of the UK’s 10 million D/deaf population are fluent BSL users. That leaves 99.75 % who need support.

Deaf Relay ensures:

  • Effective use in education, legal consultations, medical appointments, and workplace meetings
